Just a short post covering some of the things that went on in 2015 via a nice case study we did with LINX – SureVoIP on LINX Case Study

Since joining LINX in 2014 and expanding over to IXScotland and IXManchester in 2015, SureVoIP have recorded an increase of 65% in turnover on their 2014 year end. 2016 looks to be an exciting year for its existing as well as new customers and partners, as this means more funds are being re-invested for enhancements and innovation.

How did LINX help?

SureVoIP relate much of this success to peering and will happily give technical and non-technical evidence (friendly community, NOC contacts, traceroutes, sector awareness, legal policies etc.) to anyone that wishes to learn more. They consider the network operator and peering sector, especially LINX, as a community which all depends on the co-operation of everyone in order to make the Internet work.

SureVoIP is now an independent IP network operator and 2014

Dear all,

Some of you will already know that currently SureVoIP rents servers in London and owns and co-locates some in Edinburgh. This is all about to change. Those of you that follow SureVoIP on Twitter and read the SureVoIP Blog or have chatted to me personally at GraniteExpo 2013 last month will already know all about this.

As of now we are an independent ISP, but more specifically an Internet Telephony Service Provider in our own right. We made our first test VoIP call last week across are new network. Here are the details and what you can expect this to bring to our SureVoIP Partners, your customer and our direct customers. This has been fully self-funded (and fully paid for outright) via your hard work which is now almost fully deployed:

  • Juniper and Cisco based with an on site 4 hour response support SLA
  • Full Out of Band management network
  • RIPE LIR – https://stat.ripe.net/as199659
  • IPv4 and IPv6 based using our directly assigned IP address allocations
  • Based in Telehouse East – full rack and directly contracted with Telehouse
  • Small PoP in Edinburgh which will be expanded once we join IXScotland
  • Level3 Tier 1 provider for transit – directly contracted with Level3
  • NTT Tier 1 provider for transit – directly contracted with NTT

  • New portal coming for billing with call packages, partner access, per customer tariffs and discount, nice invoices with call stats and graphs which is all driven by the SureVoIP API
  • Partner access monitoring platform to monitor your customers IP networks and services

Quick update – Our first VoIP call over our new core network

Our first VoIP call over our new core network was carried by Level 3 Communications then onwards via the LINX and outbound via Simwood eSMS Limited Who was our first VoIP made to? Why, to our Imtech ICT network architect to say a massive thanks! Simwood eSMS Limited the quality was excellent! (We did also share the news with a close friend and spoke to them. You know who you are!) That’s two calls so far!

Another post will be coming soon explaining what this all means to our customers and a long and detailed post for our partners!

Scottish VoIP gets a boost – LINX and Scottish Government announce the launch of new Internet Exchange for Scotland

SureVoIP are very excited to share the news about IXScotland being launched. It will mean the Scottish based internet traffic stays in Scotland, which is great news for Scottish customers using Voice Over IP (VoIP):

(28/10/2013) – LINX is pleased to announce the launch of a brand new Internet Exchange for Scotland, which is now fully installed and will be passing its first Internet traffic over the next few days. The exchange called IXScotland will be LINX’s first dedicated Internet Exchange (IXP) for the region.

Hosted at Pulsant’s South Gyle data centre in Edinburgh (formerly Scolocate), IXScotland is built using the hardware from Extreme’s Summit X460 Series. The new IXP will allow ISPs and content providers with customers in Scotland to “keep local traffic local” by reducing the need to exchange traffic in London, resulting in reduced latency and faster connectivity for Scottish networks and Internet users.

Today’s launch is the culmination of months of consultation with the local network community and the Scottish Government. The IXP launched with many networks connected from the start and with more to follow. The launch was welcomed by the Scottish Government with the Cabinet Secretary, John Swinney, who visited IXScotland just before launch and said:

“We are delighted to welcome the establishment of a dedicated Internet Exchange Point for Scotland which will speed up Internet access for businesses and individuals. I want to recognise the key contribution of LINX, who have worked with the industry and Scottish Government to make this happen.”.

John Souter, CEO of LINX, said: “IXScotland is a real step forward for the Internet community in Scotland and the UK as a whole. The exchange will allow networks to stop ‘tromboning’ traffic to London and back again, and will help increase resilience by creating a new centre for interconnection in the UK.”

LINX members can connect to any of our IXPs without additional membership fees. To help grow the exchange and build a critical mass of connected networks, all available port speeds, from 100M to 10G, will be free at launch until 2015.
