  1. SureVoIP Business Premier
  2. SureVoIP Business Standard

Oil & Gas ICT Leaders 2015, 2nd Annual Conference

SureVoIP are delighted to exhibiting at Scot-Tech’s 2nd Annual Oil & Gas ICT Leader, this being held 18th & 19th March 2015, Aberdeen AECC.

ICT is crucial to the ongoing transformation of the Oil and Gas industry; having long transcended the role of backroom support, IT leaders now have wide-ranging responsibilities and are increasingly central to the performance of their organisation. With oil prices reaching record lows and margins becoming squeezed, the need to utilise ICT resources as a driver of innovation and improvement has never been clearer.

The ICT Leaders conference will bring together IT Managers from across the industry to discuss how ICT can be used to help deliver cost reduction, efficiency savings and competitive advantage. The event will consider some of the transformative technologies which are revolutionising operational processes, from big data analytics to unified communications. The programme will also explore the role of IT within the wider organisational context, looking at business transformation, investment models and technology strategies.

The conference will offer a unique platform for knowledge exchange and discussion, providing an opportunity for delegates to share their views and discuss common challenges with their peers in an open forum. While each organisation has their own goals and priorities, many of the IT challenges will be the same. This event aims to harness the vast collective expertise from across the country and explore how we can create a more prosperous, secure and competitive UK oil region.

VoIP Optimised Broadband update

Dear all,

Just a quick update to let you know where we are with our broadband roll out. We’ve been working with Fluidata SEP to get our own platform, interconnects, resilience and quality right before releasing the final services. We’re very happy with the result. Right now we have some BT Wholesale ADSL (for VoIP only IPv6 broadband), LLU ADSL (which will be our unlimited data product) and BT Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) live and in use with select customers and SureVoIP Partners. We also have some Ethernet Fibre products about to go live with customers.

It’s all just about there and is currently in the final stages. What’s left is Quality Of Service (QoS) testing for VoIP/SIP, integration with the SureVoIP API for SureVoIP Partners and our own use and a Broadband Checker for the main website. It’s taken a long time, but doing things right always does. Much better than us just adding a margin on to someone else’s internet connectivity products, where as this way we have lots of control and your traffic comes straight in to the SureVoIP Network.

The new customer portal is also making excellent progress which will be available for Beta usage next month, all going well. More when we have it.

Thanks as always,

Gavin.

Quick update – Our first VoIP call over our new core network

Our first VoIP call over our new core network was carried by Level 3 Communications then onwards via the LINX and outbound via Simwood eSMS Limited Who was our first VoIP made to? Why, to our Imtech ICT network architect to say a massive thanks! Simwood eSMS Limited the quality was excellent! (We did also share the news with a close friend and spoke to them. You know who you are!) That’s two calls so far!

Another post will be coming soon explaining what this all means to our customers and a long and detailed post for our partners!

SureVoIP and the SureVoIP VoIP API finalists for the 2013 ITSPA Awards

We’ve doubled our VoIP capacity again due to growth in 2012 and our 2013 plans

Hi all,

Hope you’re having a great year too? With 2012 almost coming to an end it’s time to just summarise where we are and what’s been happening in our world of VoIP.

We’ve now doubled our VoIP capacity with BT wholesale again to meet upcoming business in 2013. What else? Here’s a quick list as I know you’re very busy:

  • We have secured funding from the Scottish Business Gateway for a new business plan and sales and marketing work. This is paving the way for us to develop our own ISP related to VoIP in 2013. It is also helping with a new marketing video, website revamp, better purchase experience so your products are instantly live and a new customer and partner portal (plus other things)
  • We’ve joined RIPE – those techies of you will know this is the first step to running your own Broadband and other connectivity products
  • We’ve entered the ITSPA Awards again have high hopes we’ll win it
  • Our iPhone app is getting shown to us this month which is being developed in partnership with RGU
  • We’re closed for Christmas (I hope you are too)
  • We’re launching a brand new conferencing and web meeting product (more this month but it is a real game changer)
  • We’re moving office so we can accommodate more staff
  • We’re working hard on the most requested feature which is call packages
  • The SureVoIP API developer portal will be ready after the new year
  • SureVoIP partners are using the API in some cool ways

We’ve a couple of press releases out before the year end so keep an eye out. How has your year been?

Thanks,

Gavin.

P.S. Have you seen our SureVoIP 5 star reviews?

Attended Transfer – Letter A in [A-Z0-9] of VoIP

Hi All,

Today we’re starting a new series of blog posts covering terms and features of SureVoIP products and services (and VoIP in general), going through the whole alphabet and numbers 0 to 9 (geeky reference to regular expressions in programming).

We may do a few days of the same letter or number if we think there are so many to cover! So, here we go:

Attended Transfer

An attended transfer is when you consult with the person you are transferring the call to before completing the transfer. This allows you to inform the person of who the caller is, and determine if they can take the call.

To transfer a call that is currently active, press the transfer button on your phone, then dial the extension you are transferring to. The target extension will ring. Once the target extension picks up, you can consult whether the target extension wishes to take the caller.

To complete the transfer, press transfer again.

If the person at the target extension does not with to take the call, press the cancel button. The original caller may still be on hold, to retrieve the call, press resume (Some phones may need you to press the Line 1 button).

On phones that do not have a transfer button simply dial *1 instead.

Some phones may say Xfer or TRAN instead of Transfer or have an icon showing a phone with the receiver lifted and an arrow pointing away. Refer to your phone manual if you are unsure.

You can also find this on our Hosted VoIP Reference Guide.

Thanks,

Gavin.
